Grant Recipients
The Foundation currently funds and during the past few years has provided significant grants to the following nonprofit organizations in the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County area and the Treasure Coast Area of Florida (minor grants and grants out of those areas are not discussed herein). The recipients were selected only after a strenuous review of applications selected from the numerous requests.
Medical Outreach
“The goal of the G.R.O.W. Doula Program at Martin County Healthy Start Coalition is to increase community health literacy and improve outcomes among participating families by addressing factors that contribute to fetal death, infant, and maternal mortality, and morbidity. G.R.O.W. doulas are non-medical professionals trained to support mothers and families with physical, emotional, and evidence-based information before, during, and after birth. They help to ensure that a mother, baby, and family achieve the healthiest, most rewarding birth experience possible.”

Social Outreach
Project Lift's focus is to invest in the lives of at-risk male and female teens ages 14-19. Project Lift operates out of four offices in southern Florida. It offers hope annually to approximately 1,000 teens struggling with substance abuse, lack of support, and academic failures. At no cost to the participants, and with the help of licensed therapists, the program offers mental health psychological therapy and counseling substance abuse therapy, all with an emphasis on vocational skills training and mentoring.
The Foundation provides operating capital and equipment purchases for vocational training.
“We would like to thank the Jacobsohn Foundation for its ongoing contribution to IGNITE Youth Alliance. IGNITE is St. Lucie County’s Implementation of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice, and Delinquency Prevention’s evidence-based Comprehensive Gang Prevention Model. As part of the model, we provide mentoring, access to prosocial activities, and support for basic needs for approximately 100 youth who are at risk for or involved in gang activity. The youth we serve are subject to extreme economic deprivation and have a range of needs including clothing, food, hygiene products, legal documents required for employment, cap and gowns for graduation, fees to participate in sports, and prosocial activities. The donation we receive from the Jacobsohn Foundation goes a long way in providing support for youth and their families who would otherwise go without. Your support is critical to help us to stabilize the homes of those in greatest need, which is key to gang prevention.”

Thanks to the support of the Carol M. Jacobsohn Foundation, S4S has been able to support a new class of nine 1st grae IAR boys at Eastport Elementary School (EES). These boys have been selected by the EES principal because they are already demonstrating reading difficulties. Research shows that children who are not reading on grade level by third grade have poor prospects for future academic success. We aim to intervene in these boys' lives early and for two straight years and get them on track. The boys in this year's class are already making huge strides, and we believe that with our intervention, these boys will be reading on grade level by 3rd grade and looking forward to future academic success.
Arts and After School Programs
Jacobsohn Foundation contributed a generous donation to LET'S GO for the 2015-2016 Academic Year. This funding allowed LET'S GO to grow in the AAC Region offering more activities to existing partners, starting new partnerships, and expanding our student tracking and evaluation system.
Jacobsohn Foundation helped support direct delivery for 8 of the 15 sites. Using LET'S GO services, partners engaged students in hands-on Robotics, Science and Engineering activities. Professional development and all support implemented at these sites contributed to the sustainability of their STEM programs.
Tracking and evaluation for all 15 sites was possible due to support from the Jacobsohn Foundation. This helped to expand the AAC LET's GO STEM education pipeline. This pipeline was vital to identifying "STEM Candidates" and "STEM Sutdents" leading to a collaborative opportunity with a few local organizations including Northrop Grumman. Resources and holistic support will be offered to these identified students with the goal of fostering STEM resources.
The Carol M. Jacobsohn Foundation has been supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County. Since August 2006 they played a critical role our organization’s Capital Campaign to open our flagship Club, the Wiley H. Bates Clubhouse in Annapolis, Maryland. The Foundation has consistently played a role in BGCAA's success by sponsoring our annual events, creating an academic endowment for members, and providing a challenge grant during the Youth of the Year dinners to inspire giving from the community. Through their generous challenge grants, they inspire others to give graciously and have helped raise significant funding to support the Quality after-school programs that the Clubs provide. The funding gives young people access to opportunities, leveling the playing field, no matter their economic status, race, gender, sexuality, or religion. By providing a safe-haven, with caring mentors, and life enhancing programs, Club Kids thrive. They plan for great futures, learning skills for success. They reach their potential and emerge prepared for all sorts of possibilities--ready to impact the world.
The establishment of the Carol M. Jacobsohn Foundation, Inc. Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Scholarship Fund in 2018 was yet another investment in the future of the youth of Anne Arundel County. Believing that education is the cornerstone in which Great Futures are created, the scholarship fund was created to support higher learning for Club members to ensure that the most deserving students have a chance to learn.
The Carol M. Jacobsohn Foundation has truly helped change the lives of thousands of local youth and is a cornerstone in the success of BGCAA's six Anne Arundel County Clubhouses.
